Building and Facilities Management Certificate Program: A forged collaboration between SSC and MaPSA

The Center for Continuing Education and Development (CCED) of St. Scholastica’s College Manila held its maiden certificate program entitled “Building and Facilities Management” from August 28 to October 2, 2021. The course was organized in partnership with the Manila Ecclesiastical Province School Systems Association (MaPSA), a community of archdiocesan and diocesan educational systems composed of various religious schools. MaPSA has partnered with SSC Manila’s CCED to fulfill its mission of providing the officers and personnel of its member schools with continuing professional education and life-long learning skills.
The Building and Facilities Management certificate program is intended to provide an overview and fundamental knowledge related to school buildings and facilities management. The course offered sixty-five (65) participants relevant training and information to further their competencies necessary in fulfilling their posts as people in charge of building and facilities maintenance and construction and of efficient and proper handling of physical assets of their schools or institutions. The program consisted of eleven (11) modules was delivered by Arch. Allen R. Buenaventura, Prof. Eduardo Manahan, Arch. Joachim P. Dulatre, Arch. Carlo Marudo, Arch. Franco Boet Ramos, Engr. Abel Lopez, Mr. Ferdinand Cruz, and Engr. Regner Villareal, who are longtime industry practitioners and lecturers.
True to CCED’s commitment to providing life-long education and training programs to various individuals, organizations, and communities, Sr. M. Christine Pinto, OSB (SSC Manila School President), described this partnership with MaPSA as a realization of the concept of an educating village founded on collaboration and solidarity. She highlighted what Pope Francis said about how change requires a process of education to create new paradigms capable of responding to the challenges and problems of the contemporary world. Moreover, Fr. Albert Delvo, Ph.D. (MaPSA President), discussed how the disruptions of the pandemic presented opportunities for partnerships and linkages such as this. It enabled school officials and personnel to upskill themselves to contribute more productively to their respective institutions and help create a safe, resilient, and sustainable school environment.
